Newsletter To Parents
Dear Parent and/ or Guardian,
Hello, my name is Mrs. Holland and I will be your student’s science teacher for the upcoming academic year. I am sending you this letter to establish early on a line of communication through which you may contact me and immediately voice any questions and/or concerns you have. In conjunction with providing you multiple ways to contact me, I also want to inform you of resources I have created that will undoubtedly help your student(s) succeed. First of all, I have designed my own web page that will provide both you and your student(s) with constant access to almost everything used and/or covered in class. In other words, this website will contain all the handouts and reading guides students have received as well as the power-points I use as supplemental instructional aids. My hope is that this site will give you, the parent and/or guardian, the unique opportunity to examine the topics we cover, view the assignments and projects students are expected to accomplish, as well as receive a glimpse into my unique hands-on inquiry oriented approach to student learning. Personally, I believe that students learn best when they are engaged and allowed to interact hands-on with content. So, in my class your student will be challenged to learn science content by becoming a scientist in training. Learning how to think like a scientist, like all other skills, requires practice and it will take your student(s) some time to master, so the web page will provide your student with the resources he/she will need to thrive in this class. Another interesting web-based software I am encouraging students to take advantage of is a program known as Quizlet. I appreciate this tool because all areas of science are very vocabulary dense and this site will allow students to practice with the complex terminology they will be expected to know in a fun non-intimidating way.For instance, students can use the Quizlet website to play vocabulary games, make flash cards, and even take practice tests all online. I will keep you posted throughout the school year if there are any changes to these sites or if I develop another resource that I believe will be of benefit to your student’s learning.
I am very excited to teach your student and I hope to hear from you soon,
Mrs. Holland
